Waxing Frequently Asked Questions?

What can I do to prepare?
Avoiding caffeine for 5 hours before getting waxed will greatly reduce sensitivity. Caffeine restricts the blood vessels so skin is not getting as much blood flow which increases sensitivity. Taking an Ibuprofen  30 minutes to 1 hour before will aid in reducing sensitivity and inflammation.

Are there any topical creams or medications that I should avoid prior to getting waxed?
Yes! Medications such as Accutane and other topicals that include Retin-A, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Differin, Strivectin, Renova, ProActive, Avita, Benzoyl Peroxide. All of the above mentioned can enhance skin sensitivity that could lead to lifting of the skin when removing hair.

Does it hurt?
There is some pain involved, however most men and women find it quite tolerable. The Skin Care Therapists work as quickly as possible so the pain is greatly minimized. To ensure the least amount of pain possible, see "how to prepare" above.

How long should my hair be?
The hair to be removed should be 1/4 - 1/2 inch in length for proper hair removal. If you have been shaving regularly in the desired area to be waxed, wait about 3-4 weeks. It takes time to grow out each of the 3 cycles. If you come in prematurely you may not achieve a desirable result.

Is it OK to shave between wax appointments?
It is strongly advised to NOT SHAVE between waxing services. Waxing slows down and reduces hair growth. Hair also grows much thinner post waxing, thus making it easier to remove and less painful when waxed. Shaving just one time in between will undo all that is gained from waxing and can further irritate follicles which can cause ingrown hair.

What to expect after my Wax?
For most people, you may experience a slight redness or pinkness of the skin which will go away in a few hours for facial waxing and may last for about 24 hours for body waxing. Applying a cooling gel or aloe can soothe irritation. The Skin Care Therapist will apply products to your skin post waxing as needed. Also, avoid extreme sun exposure or tanning for up to 24 hours prior to your waxing service.

Some of your pricing has a "+" sign, why would the prices vary?
Our prices reflect the average hair growth of an individual, however each persons needs will vary. If more detailed waxing is desired or required, the Skin Care Therapist will inform you of any price changes due to your requests.
